Officials from Philipsburg, Mont.-based Granite County Medical Center will meet to discuss the next steps for the hospital after a proposed operations levy failed June 5 by fewer than 20 votes, according to a KPAX report.

Three years ago the medical center asked voters to approve a special mill levy to offset declining reimbursements and rising operational costs. It won approval of the levy, which helped with operating costs and implementation of the center’s first electronic records system. But that levy expires in July 2019.

The defeated mill levy, at $400,000 per year, was designed to replace the expiring one. It was expected to fund about 10 percent of the hospital’s operations.

The measure failed by a 526 to 508 vote.

Hospital officials said they will meet to discuss future steps in the next seven days.
