Missouri hospital sees self-pay collections drop 35% in 2017

Memphis, Mo.-based Scotland County Hospital saw self-pay collections fall 35 percent in 2017 compared to last year, according to a Memphis Democrat report.

Michael Brandon, the hospital’s controller, told board members last month the hospital collected $598,179 through self-pay patients this year, compared to $922,990 a year prior. At the same time, the hospital saw uncompensated care costs of $2.1 million.

The hospital board will assess if any policy changes are required, as well as customer service versus customer accountability, at the board’s next meeting.
