Michigan hospital plans 2nd cut of employees

Bay City, Mich.-based McLaren Bay Region hospital, part of Grand Blanc, Mich.-based McLaren Health Care, has shared plans to make reductions in internal operations and its labor force to improve finances and operational sustainability.

"Steps have been made to ensure we have the right staff in the right service areas to deliver first-rate care for our patients, which has involved reductions in certain areas where we have experienced changes in our volumes," a spokesperson for McLaren Bay Regional said in a Jan. 13 statement shared with Becker's

The spokesperson did not share the number of affected employees, but said the 415-bed hospital is adjusting and expanding services at both its main campus and for the expected expansion at its west campus.

The reductions come after McLaren Health Care closed Bay City, Mich.-based McLaren Bay Special Care, a long-term acute care hospital, on Dec. 22 and shared plans to build a multi-specialty outpatient campus on the site. 

McLaren Bay Region also shared plans to consolidate services and employees in mid-September 2024, citing "transformational changes affecting the global healthcare industry."
