Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic has received a $75 million gift to support investments in modernizing physical infrastructure and care environments.
The gift from the Thomas and Elizabeth Grainger family will support Bold. Forward. Unbound., the system’s $5 billion investment in its downtown Rochester campus, according to a March 27 health system news release.
In recognition of the gift, Mayo Clinic will name the Grainger Building, a logistics facility that will serve as a central hub managing supplies and automated systems for the new clinical buildings planned as part of the transformation. The facility, scheduled to open in 2028, will use intelligent storage systems and AI-driven forecasting to automatically restock supplies across campus, according to the release. Autonomous mobile robots will transport supplies through a 900-foot underground tunnel.
The contribution builds on the Grainger family’s long-standing relationship with Mayo Clinic, which spans four generations, according to the release.
Mayo Clinic also recognizes the Thomas and Elizabeth Grainger family as a Philanthropic Partner, the organization’s highest level of distinction for benefactors.
The gift follows a $100 million contribution announced in February from The Bill and Donna Marriott Foundation and The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation to support Bold. Forward. Unbound.
