Here are five things to know.
1. The proposal, as it stands now, includes a 25 percent cut for spending on home health.
2. With the proposal, Republican Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker’s team wants to rein in the state’s taxpayer-funded Medicaid program, or MassHealth, which serves nearly 2 million people, according to the report.
3. However, leaders of several agencies contend the rate cut could force them to scale back nurses’ visits to the homes of people with complex, chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease and schizophrenia, reports The Boston Globe.
4. The proposed cut comes as MassHealth’s outlays are expected to rise 5 percent in the next fiscal year, to $16.2 billion, the report states.
5. State officials said the rate cut would apply to about 7,000 people who have been receiving nursing care at home for more than six months, according to the report.
