Massachusetts Hospitals Face Delays in Medicaid Payments

Massachusetts hospitals are facing delays in Medicaid payments due to the implementation of a new computer system to process reimbursement claims, and the delays are threatening the financial viability of some facilities in the state, according to a report in the Arlington Advocate.

The Massachusetts Office of Health and Human Services is currently replacing its Medicaid Management Information System with a system that is designed to provide “flexibility and real-time analysis,” according to the report.

The state’s Medicaid office warned hospitals that payments could postponed until after July 1.

The delays are creating cash-flow problems for some facilities in the state, causing some facilities to request earlier payment due to hardship. These facilities have yet to find out if they will be reimbursed at an earlier date.
