Legislation Would Reform Medicare’s Treatment of Rural Hospitals

Bipartisan legislation has been introduced that would make Medicare funding more equitable by providing additional assistance to rural hospitals when needed, according to a Ripon Advance report.

The legislation, known as the Craig Thomas Rural Hospital and Provider Equality Act, would also repeal the rule that requires critical access hospital to discharge or transfer patients in under 96 hours, according to the report.

The legislation was introduced by Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.), Sen. John Barraso (R-Wyo.), Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) and Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.).
