Bill to Expand Access to Health Benefits to Illegal Immigrants Passes Senate Committee

The California Senate Health Committee has approved Senate Bill 1005 to expand subsidized healthcare programs to undocumented immigrants residing within the state.

The bill, known as the Health for All Act, seeks to extend Medi-Cal benefits to low-income individuals who would qualify for the benefits but for their immigration status.

Under the bill, approximately 730,000 of California's 2.3 million undocumented immigrants would gain access to healthcare.

The bill was introduced by Sen. Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens).
