Alaska Passes Bill Making Medical Apologies Inadmissible Evidence in Medical Malpractice Cases

An Alaska bill making physician apologies and expressions of compassion toward patients regarding the healthcare provider's actions inadmissible in medical malpractice cases has been passed by the Alaska legislature, according to an Anchorage Daily News report.

The bill is meant to improve relationships between patients and physicians as well stop the problem of medical apologies being confused for admissions of medical negligence in civil proceedings, according to the report.

The bill was sponsored by State Representative Kurt Olson (R-Kenai).
