Kingman Regional accidentally sends incorrect bills to thousands of former patients

Kingman (Ariz.) Regional Medical Center apologized Tuesday for a "software glitch" that led to the organization sending incorrect bills to thousands of former patients.

The apology was posted on the hospital's website. KRMC said it anticipates the incorrect bills, dated Feb. 24 and mailed Monday, will begin arriving at patients' homes later this week.

KMRC said a "software glitch" caused the hospital's automated billing system to spontaneously print and mail statements for accounts dating back as far as 2014. The accounts may still be pending insurance payment, the hospital said.

"We have fixed the system and want to assure our customers that although they may receive an incorrect statement, their account at the hospital is accurate. Therefore we strongly urge you to call us if you have questions," Brenda Levy, assistant director of KRMC's patient financial services, said in the hospital's apology.

She adds, "We realize that this error may result in possible confusion or inconvenience to our customers and we are truly sorry."
