Kaleida Health breaks ground on $270M children's hospital

New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has announced Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health has broken ground on the $270 million John R. Oishei Children's Hospital in Buffalo.

The 183-bed children's hospital is expected to be completed by 2017.

"The children's hospital will bring together some of the best medical expertise in western New York and become a state-of-the-art health provider for this region's children," said Gov. Cuomo.

To help close the funding gap for the project, the state of New York will provide Kaleida Health with $35 million for the project.

"Securing the funding for the new John R. Oishei Children's hospital is a huge win for Buffalo and western New York," said New York Lt. Gov. Robert J. Duffy.
