Montgomery, Ala.-based Jackson Hospital and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama have reached a verbal agreement that will keep the hospital open, according to a July 3 Facebook post on the facility’s page

“We expect to formalize that agreement [the week of July 6] after we get final confirmation of several city and county support commitments that will be vital to our continued operation,” John Quinlivan, CEO of Jackson Hospital, told Becker’s July 5.

Jackson Hospital, which sought bankruptcy protection in February 2025, has been in ongoing talks with BCBS Alabama over reimbursement rates for months.

The hospital delayed a July 1 planned closure amid ongoing discussions with BCBS Alabama, city, county and state leaders to find a path forward for the facility.

“Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama is pleased Jackson Hospital will remain open and continue serving the Montgomery community and River Region,” a spokesperson for BCBS Alabama said in a July 6 statement shared with Becker’s. “Blue Cross has worked with hospital leadership and other stakeholders to keep their doors open and provide patients access to the care they need. Throughout this process, our focus has remained on supporting our members and the community.”
