Springfield (Ill.) Clinic, an independent, multi-specialty physician group, is laying off workers amid financial challenges, Chief Brand and Advocacy Officer Zach Kerker confirmed in a statement shared with Becker’s March 24.
“Like many healthcare organizations, Springfield Clinic is facing financial challenges due to rising operational costs, insurance reimbursement constraints and economic pressures nationwide,” Mr. Kerker said. “While we have worked hard to absorb these impacts, we must now make difficult but necessary adjustments, including budget and workforce reductions.”
Springfield Clinic did not provide the timeline for the layoffs or the number of positions affected. According to The State Journal-Register, which cited an internal document obtained by the newspaper, nearly 70 employees are being laid off.
“These decisions are not made lightly, and we stay deeply committed to providing high-quality health care while ensuring long-term sustainability for our patients, employees and the community we serve,” Mr. Kerker said.
The Springfield Clinic website states that the organization has more than 650 physicians and advanced practitioners offering care across more than 80 medical specialties and subspecialties.
