Hospital Executives Predict Smaller Spending Decline Than They Predicted in July

Hospital executives recently surveyed by the investment bank Leerink Swann projected a 4 percent decline in capital spending in 2009 over last year, dramatically smaller than the 13 percent decline they projected in July, according to a release from Leerink Swann.

In addition, a much smaller number of hospital executives projected major declines in the volume in orthopedic and general surgical procedures than in the July survey.

“Results clearly seem to suggest—for the first time since October 2008—stable hospital operating conditions and somewhat improving expectations,” the company stated.

The data came from Leerink Swann’s MEDACorp quarterly survey of 61 hospital administrators.
