At the heart of the project is expanding the hospital’s emergency department capacity by 72 beds, according to the report. Brandon Regional CEO Bland Eng said the hospital’s daily ED occupancy is at 95 percent, and expanding the department will increase patient capacity from 342 to 438 per day.

Brandon Regional will also be adding 30 “progressive care” rooms, 10 intensive care rooms and a new parking garage. The capital project is slated to be complete in late 2016.

Brandon Regional is part of HCA West Florida, one of the largest divisions within Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America.
