Fitch Ratings affirmed the “BBB” rating on Louisville, Ky.-based Humana’s senior notes.

The ratings affirmation is based on the termination of Humana’s and Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna’s $37 billion merger agreement and the rating agency’s view that “Humana’s business and financial profiles will support the company’s current ratings, notwithstanding Humana’s inability to realize the rating benefits it would have derived from a combination with Aetna.” Analysts at Fitch also took into account the insurer’s “leading position” in the Medicare Advantage market.

Fitch Ratings also affirmed the “A” Insurer Financial Strength ratings assigned to some of its subsidiaries.

The outlook is stable.
