Emory lands $400M grant to enhance healthcare offerings

Atlanta-based Emory University received a $400 million grant from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation to support the construction of a cancer institute and health science building, according to the Saporta Report.

The $400 million grant, the largest in Emory University's history, will go toward the construction of the Winship Cancer Institute Tower as well as a second health sciences research building. Both construction projects are slated to break ground in 2019, with a completion date in 2022.

The cancer tower will house infusion facilities, operating rooms, clinical examination rooms and imaging technology.

The health research building, which will focus on studying innovative cures across a spectrum of diseases, will be on Emory's main campus, across the street from Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

"The contributions from the foundation have really helped us move care in health sciences, and cancer in particular, forward for the state of Georgia," Jonathan Lewin, CEO of Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare said, according to the report.
