CommonSpirit to grow GPO

Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health plans to grow its Edgewise internal group purchasing organization, which also provides GPO services to member organizations outside the health system.

CommonSpirit is also releasing a request for proposal for a support GPO. While a third-party GPO will continue to play a role in the health system’s procurement strategy, CommonSpirit said the scope of this partnership will be redefined to meet its evolving needs.

“Engaging directly with the vendor community, Edgewise has already brought significant savings and benefits to its members,” Kristy Waters, senior vice president of support services and resource management, said in an April 4 news release. “By expanding Edgewise’s reach, we can provide even greater savings to our members and pivot our relationships with our partners from transactional to strategic.”
