Roughly six months ago, Colorado’s Medicaid program moved to a new software system run by contractor Hewlett Packard Enterprise. The software is meant to facilitate the reimbursement of Medicaid providers, including physicians and those who care for the disabled.
During a Wednesday meeting of the state’s Joint Budget Committee, legislators spoke of numerous physicians and health professionals raising concerns about how the transition is affecting reimbursement. Some hospital officials said they may have to turn away Medicaid patients if problems persist, according to the report.
Officials with Colorado’s Medicaid program paid 28 million claims totaling $4.3 billion so far. Officials said the system, which is paying out 66 percent of claims with a goal of 75 percent of claims, is improving weekly.
