Under the Medicaid Innovation Accelerator Program, CMS will support states by investing more than $100 million in technical support to fund reform efforts, according to a news release. The program builds on recent recommendations from the National Governors Association’s Health Care Sustainability Task Force.

According to CMS, the program will support innovation through four key functions: data analytics; improving quality measurement; identifying and advancing new Medicaid service delivery and financial models; and state-to-state learning, rapid-cycle improvement and federal evaluation.

“Medicaid innovation is moving forward, and the new Medicaid Innovation Accelerator Program, announced in response to recommendations from governors, will give states the opportunity to even further strengthen their great work,” HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell said of the program.  “HHS will provide strategically targeted resources that states can leverage to enhance the impact of their efforts to transform healthcare.”
