Cleveland Clinic's cancer institute lands $10M gift: 4 things to know

The Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute was gifted $10 million from former residents with deep ties to the city, reports The Plain Dealer.

Here are four things to know.

1. The gift will go toward advancing clinical care, research and education at the cancer institute. In addition, the gift will provide funds to improve patient care experience.

2. Cleveland Clinic received the pledge from Paula Jo and Bob Boykin, and Kristina and Jack Boykin. They made the gift to honor Bob and Jack's mother Audrey Boykin, who died in 1990 from cancer.

3. The donors now live in North Carolina and Florida, but still use Cleveland Clinic as their primary healthcare provider.

4. "Patients experience various levels of hardship during their treatment, and the Boykins are providing us with the resources to do something about that. For this, we are truly grateful," Brian Bolwell, chair of the Taussig Cancer Institute, told The Plain Dealer.
