CHS closing Pennsylvania hospital's emergency room in April

Commonwealth Health is closing the emergency department at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, Pa., on April 1, according to ABC affiliate WNEP.

The emergency department at Regional Hospital of Scranton will be the main emergency department for Commonwealth Health operations, according to the report. In exchange, Regional Hospital's ASC will be relocated to Moses Taylor.

Commonwealth Health, part of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, enacted similar changes at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock, Pa., which closed its emergency department in July.

"This operational decision has been made with the support and encouragement of the ER medical staff to consolidate staffing resources at one site to improve patient care and operational efficiencies," Commonwealth Health said in a statement.
