Lewes, Del.-based Beebe Healthcare is eliminating 22 nonclinical positions, a health system spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s.
“Like many health systems across the country, Beebe Healthcare is evolving how we operate and deliver care in response to the ongoing national and local healthcare financial changes,” the spokesperson said in an Aug. 13 statement. “While we’ve made great progress in optimizing our budget to ensure we can continue our ongoing growth to provide the best care to our patients and communities, unfortunately, these steps are not enough to combat reduced reimbursement rates, rising costs, legislative changes, and the unprecedented population increase in Sussex County, Delaware.”
The decision was made after Beebe exhausted several other avenues for cost savings, according to the statement.
“The reality is that the strategies that have allowed us to survive and thrive as a community health system for over a century will not sustain our success in today’s constantly changing healthcare landscape,” the spokesperson said. “We have every intention of maintaining our status as an independent, nonprofit healthcare system, serving our patients with personalized, compassionate care just as we’ve done for the last 100-plus years.”
As of January, the three-campus health system had more than 2,800 employees, according to its 2024 community report.
