Arizona city planners raise concerns over proposed $800M hospital

Flagstaff, Ariz., city planners in the Planning and Zoning Commission have raised concerns about Flagstaff-based Northern Arizona Healthcare's plan to build an $800 million new hospital and "wellness village," NPR affiliate KNAU reported April 20.

City planners heard concerns from residents about the carbon output of the hospital, the potential for sprawl and the need to invest in new firefighting capabilities for the proposed seven-story hospital.

The commission voted to send the proposal to the city council with a denial recommendation. The city council will vote on the matter May 2.
