Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network recorded an operating income of $7 million (0.5% operating margin) in the third quarter of 2025, up from an operating loss of $30.9 million (-2.4% margin) during the same period last year, according to its Nov. 26 financial report.
Total operating revenue was $1.4 billion for the three months ended Sept. 30, up from $1.3 billion last year. Net patient service revenue was $1.3 billion, up from $1.2 billion.
Total operating expenses were $1.4 billion in the third quarter, up from $1.3 billion during the same period last year. Salaries, wages and benefits totaled $702 million, up from $682.6 million. The health system said these costs are higher through the first nine months of 2025 due to workforce investment and higher employee health benefits driven by employee growth and cost increases, offset by decreased external temporary nursing labor.
Patient care supply costs were $359.6 million in the quarter, up from $319.6 million during the same period last year. The system said the increase was driven by increased volumes, offset by supply chain improvements to manage acquisition costs and inventory levels.
Allegheny Health Network reported a net income of $21.3 million in the third quarter, up from a net loss of $12.9 million during the same period in 2024.
