Alabama healthcare authority seeks additional tax revenue for Southeast Health

Houston County Health Care Authority, the governing body of Dothan, Ala.-based Southeast Health, wants taxpayers to pay four mills — or $4 on each $1,000 of a property’s assessed value — in property tax, the Dothan Eagle reported Sept. 14.

“This comes at a time when health systems nationally have seen significant growth in labor, drugs, and supply expenses,” a statement from Southeast Health shared with the publication said.

Four mills is currently the maximum that the hospital is able to receive from taxpayers.

Houston County city commissioners have yet to vote on the request. If approved, it would go into effect in 2024.
