Over the past year, Mayo Clinic Health System has invested an additional $365,000 in radiology and imaging equipment. The most expensive upgrade is a $198,000 new digital X-ray room, according to the report.
“The biggest thing is that it’s digital,” Meghan Vollbrecht, radiology manager at Mayo Fairmont, told the Fairmont Sentinel. “It’s instant acquisition so the minute the technician pushes the button, the image pops up on a computer.”
This feature shows technicians immediately if an X-ray is unacceptable so it can be redone right away, thereby speeding up the time before a patient can be diagnosed and begin treatment.
Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont has also added a fourth X-ray room for $67,000.
Ms. Vollbrecht said the additional investments and upgrades are intended to prepare the facility to treat higher patient volumes upon the completion of the ED expansion, according to the report.
