The data released by Kaiser include estimates of the total amount of tax credits received in each state for 2016, based on the average tax credit per person and the number of ACA marketplace enrollees receiving tax credits as of March 31.

The average monthly advanced premium tax credit in the United States is $291, according to the Kaiser report. Alaska has the highest average monthly advanced premium tax credit ($750), while the state of New York has the lowest ($178).

Overall, Florida had the highest estimated total annual premium tax credits received by ACA marketplace enrollees — $5.2 million.

The ACA allows eligible people with low or moderate incomes to receive tax credits that reduce monthly payments for insurance plans purchased from the health law’s marketplaces, Kaiser notes. These subsidies would no longer be available if the ACA were repealed.
