9 organizations place bids to join Illinois’ proposed MCO overhaul

Nine organizations submitted bids to participate in Illinois Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner’s plan to expand Medicaid managed care organizations in the state, Illinois Controller Susana Mendoza said.

Under the proposal, Mr. Rauner looks to expand the number of Medicaid recipients in MCOs to 80 percent, up from roughly 65 percent. The governor is also calling for a reduction in the number of insurers participating in the MCOs from 12 to no more than seven.  

The nine insurers that placed bids include Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cook County Care, Harmony, IlliniCare Health, Meridian Health, Molina, Next Level and Trusted Health Plan.
