$6M Spent on Computer System That University of Iowa Hospitals Ultimately Ditched

The University of Iowa has spent $6 million on a failed laboratory computer system the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics ultimately dumped, according to a Gazette report.

UIHC officials said the health system spent $6 million on vendor payments and operating expenses before concluding the chosen vendor “could not meet expectations,” according to the report. The health system has since terminated its contract with the vendor.

Despite the setback, UIHC officials said fiscal year 2011 was a financially strong one.
