4 things to know about CMS' new QPP data submission system

Clinicians participating in the Quality Payment Program created under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act began submitting 2017 performance data through a new system on the QPP website.

Here are four things to know about the new submission system.

1. Under CMS' legacy programs, clinicians were required to submit data through multiple websites. The new system, unveiled Jan. 2, features a single website.

2. Eligible clinicians must log in to the system. Once logged in, the system will connect clinicians to the taxpayer identification number linked with their national provider identifier. Data will be reported either individually or as a group.

3. As clinicians enter data into the system, they will see real-time initial scoring of each Merit-based Incentive Payment System performance category. The scoring may change as new data is reported. Initially, the performance category score will not reflect clinicians' Alternative Payment Model status, qualifying APM participant status or any other selective statuses.

4. The submission period for clinicians to enter 2017 performance data runs from Jan. 2 to March 31, during which data can be updated at any time. The only exclusion is for groups using the CMS Web Interface, who will have a shorter submission period from Jan. 22 to March 16. CMS will calculate payment adjustments following submission deadlines.
