The institute analyzed medical costs for large employers and interviewed health plan actuaries, industry executives and officials. The institute also analyzed PwC’s 2013 Touchstone Survey of more than 1,000 employers from 35 industries.
The 2013 Touchstone Survey also found that average deductibles for visits have doubled since 2009. The changes in average deductibles for visits, according to the survey, are:
• The in-network deductible was $680 in 2009 and rose to $1,230 in 2013.
• The out-of-network deductible was $1,000 in 2009 and rose to $2,110 in 2013.
