$28M gift will be used for Children's Hospital Foundation Heart Center

Children's Hospital of Richmond (Va.) at Virginia Commonwealth University has announced its recent $28 million gift from Children's Hospital Foundation in Richmond will be used to develop the Children's Hospital Foundation Heart Center at CHoR.

The gift will pay for the recruitment of senior board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon Thomas Yeh Jr., MD, PhD, who will lead the heart center, as well as various other personnel, including additional anesthetists, perfusionists, cardiologists, nurses, nurse practitioners and additional specialists, according to a news release.

The $28 million will be supplemented by funds from VCU Medical Center in Richmond, according to the release.

"This is another example of how VCU is helping to ensure that the children of the Richmond region have access to world-class health care in their own backyard," Michael Rao, PhD, president of VCU and VCU Health System, said in the release. "We have committed again and again that we will help the people who need us, including children, and will be the best partner and colleague for our entire region and state to serve young patients and their families."
