UPMC Altoona completes $6.8M cancer center expansion

UPMC Altoona (Pa.) finished a $6.8 million project to expand its cancer services at the hospital's UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.

The center, formerly Blair Medical Associates Hematology/Oncology, operates on the first floor of UMPC Altoona's outpatient surgery center.

The UPMC Hillman Cancer Center nearly doubled the hospital's original number of chemotherapy treatment bays to 28, which are housed in a 16,000-square-foot facility. The hospital projects 100 patients will receive treatment at the center daily. Five oncologists will work at the center.

In May, UPMC announced plans to rename its UPMC CancerCenter network to UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at all U.S. and abroad locations by the end of 2017.
