UnitedHealth Group's Optum plans 19 urgent care facilities in Minn.

In its largest push into Minnesota's patient care space so far, UnitedHealth Group's Optum Division will open 19 urgent care centers in the state by the end of 2017, operating under the brand name MedExpress, according to the Star Tribune.

Two of the urgent care centers are due to open Friday in Eden Prairie and Plymouth, according to the report.

Optum, the health services division of Minnetonka, Minn.-based UnitedHealth Group, acquired urgent care provider MedExpress in the spring of 2015 for an undisclosed price.

The exact number of urgent care facilities and precise locations are subject to change over the next 15 months, but Optum's current plan includes 12 facilities in the Twin Cities and another seven outside of the metro area, according to the report.
