The health system chose the 250-acre site because of its “high visibility and convenient access” from the nearby highway, according to the report.
“This is an ideal site that will allow us to maintain proximity to our current patient base with plenty of room for future expansion,” said Dan Schwanke, Monroe Regional Hospital interim president, according to the report. “The location will also allow easy and direct access to the freeway and other major roads leading to downtown Monroe, particularly for EMS as Dixie Highway passes beneath railroad tracks.”
Hospital officials will begin designing and planning the hospital in 2018, and the process is expected to take two years. The golf club will remain open during this phase.
Construction is planned to begin in 2020 with expected completion in 2022.
