Planned Parenthood to open a new abortion clinic in Wisconsin

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin will open a new $8 million abortion clinic in Milwaukee this week, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The new center, paid for by donations, is the first Planned Parenthood clinic built in Wisconsin in more than 10 years.

The opening comes despite attempts from Republican leaders in the state to limit access to the medical procedure.

Once the new clinic is open, Planned Parenthood will stop seeing patients at its current clinic location in Milwaukee. The organization will have two abortion clinics in the state, one in Madison, Wis. and the new facility in Milwaukee. Its other 19 centers scattered throughout Wisconsin will provide family planning services.

"[The new clinic] is going to allow Planned Parenthood to really improve access to care for the women of Wisconsin, and really give them a health center that they truly deserve," Kathy King, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin's medical director, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
