Planned Parenthood Minnesota will construct a new clinic in Minneapolis after receiving numerous donations, including a record-setting $6.5 million gift from a local family, according to the Star Tribune.
The donation is part of a $20 million, three-year campaign to build the new clinic, modernize the other 19 clinics in the network and potentially construct additional clinics in underserved areas.
The new three-story clinic will replace the current facility in uptown Minneapolis, which has become too small to meet demand. The facility serves 13,000 patients annually.
Construction of the building will begin next year and patients will be seen at a temporary location until the new clinic is finished.
The construction and renovation projects come at a time when Planned Parenthood is under scrutiny in Washington D.C. The Trump administration has proposed cutting all federal funding to the organization, including Medicaid, which accounts for nearly $15 million of Planned Parenthood Minnesota's $50 million in revenue.
