Palomar, Kindred agree to build acute rehabilitation facility: 4 things to know

Escondido, Calif.-based Palomar Health and Louisville, Ky.-based Kindred Healthcare will collaborate to build a 52-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital.

Here are four things to know about the joint venture.

1. The hospital will be constructed by a third party developer.

2. The hospital will be located on the campus of Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, leased to the joint venture and managed by Kindred, which currently manages the inpatient rehabilitation unit at Palomar Health's downtown campus.

3. Palomar Health executives expressed excitement about the collaboration in a prepared statement. They said the joint venture to build the new hospital is a great opportunity to grow the health system's services at the Palomar Medical Center campus.

4. Subject to several regulatory and other approvals, Kindred and Palomar expect the hospital to open by the third quarter of 2019.
