New York City-based NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital opened its 17-bed infant cardiac unit Sept. 27.
The new unit, dedicated to cardiac care for infants up to three months old, contains cardiac assist devices, specialized equipment for the smallest patients and a 3-D printing guide to aid surgical procedures. It will be staffed with a multidisciplinary team of neonatal care experts.
To unit, the Vivian and Seymour Milstein Family Infant Cardiac Unit, was named after the donors of a generous $5 million gift.
"The Vivian and Seymour Milstein Family Infant Cardiac Unit represents a groundbreaking investment in our youngest and most vulnerable patients," said Steven Corwin, MD, president and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian. "With this new unit, we will be able to better provide world-class care to infant cardiac patients… for generations to come."
