The hospital’s assisted living facility has an occupancy cap of 14. Mineral had seven residents at the beginning of 2016, with that number eventually falling to three. Ron Gleason, hospital CEO, said the low occupany would seat the hospital with $100,000 in losses before June of this year, according to the report. To sufficiently maintain Mineral’s other operations, the decision was made to halt Mineral’s assisted living services.

“This is a terrible decision we had to make, but the hospital needs to provide services that the community really needs,” Mr. Gleason said. “Financially, we just can’t keep the facility open for such a small number of people.”

The hospital will return its assisted living license to the state Feb. 28.
