The pavilion, which will be located just east of the main hospital in the place of a surface parking lot, will be six stories. It will house an expanded emergency department, two floors of operating rooms, a rooftop helipad and three patient care units. All surgical and emergency services will be relocated from the main facility to the pavilion.
The project will up MedStar Georgetown’s bed count by 123, for a total of 538 beds.
Major equipment will arrive on the construction site Feb. 28 and the remaining preconstruction activities will take place throughout the week. The groundbreaking ceremony will be held shortly after.
The addition is expected to be completed in 2021.
