Low-cost trauma clinic to open in Bay Area

A new clinic aimed at providing trauma therapy at a fraction of the usual cost is opening Thursday in Berkeley, Calif., according to a report in The Daily Californian.

Dubbed the Bay Area Trauma Recovery Clinic, the mental health center will offer individual and group therapy sessions for post-traumatic stress disorder and other forms of trauma with fees of $15 to $80 per session, depending on income, according to the report. The clinic is staffed by experienced graduate student clinicians and is supervised by licensed practitioners, which helps it keep costs down, according to the report.

The Bay Area Trauma Recovery Clinic is unique among other low-cost mental health resources in the Bay Area in that it offers trauma-specific treatment. The clinic's founder and clinical director, Matthew McKay, PhD, told The Daily Californian he contacted local therapists and low-cost clinics in the hopes they will refer trauma patients to the Bay Area Trauma Recovery Clinic.
