The ED was partially funded through $13.6 million in donations and created by local contractors, electricians and architects, according to KCCI.
Its design includes a specialized sexual assault room, built at an angle facing away from the main hallway to allow for more privacy. There is also a behavioral health room that allows for continuous monitoring of psychiatric patients.
Additionally, the William C. Knapp Emergency Department and Trauma Center features 26 private rooms and 10 rapid assessment rooms.
