Holyoke Medical Center to increase ED capacity with new facility: 5 things to know

Holyoke (Mass.) Medical Center plans to open a new emergency department in May or June, according to a report on BusinessWest.com.

Here are five things to know about the project.

1. The new ED will increase capacity from 8,500 square feet to approximately 20,750 square feet, according to the report.

2. Construction plans also include a medical office building of 18,000 square feet.

3. The expansion will increase the emergency room's treatment beds from 26 to 40, according to the report.

4. Other features of the new ED include two multipatient trauma rooms, advanced life-saving equipment, six fast-track spaces and a patient-navigation service, the report states.

5. The total cost of the project is $23.8 million. However, due to funding provided through the federal New Markets Tax Credit program, as well as a state Community Hospital Acceleration, Revitalization, and Transformation grant, the hospital's cost is approximately $15 million, according to the report.
