The fire was reported in a construction zone inside the facility. Approximately 225 employees and 100 patients were evacuated, however nobody was injured.
“The location of the fire allowed the smoke to spread out in the major access areas so we had to manage the movement of the patients to keep them away from the smoke,” said David L. Callender, MD, president of The University of Texas Medical Branch.
