Construction at Cape Fear Valley hospital leads to mold discovery

A construction project at Fayetteville, N.C.-based Cape Fear Valley Medical Center turned up fungal spores inside the hospital's nursery, according to a Fayetteville Observer report.

Patients were not transported because of the spores, however, and air quality testing showed results within Joint Commission standards, according to the report.

The construction started Aug. 12 to address a rain-caused leak. Air quality tests performed because of the construction project led to the spores' discovery.

Work will likely be completed in the next two weeks, and air quality testing will continue daily while work is in progress.
