The new patient tower, which will have 300 beds and space for 200 more, is expected to cost $1.9 billion and open 2027. The tower will help the nonprofit hospital see more patients. The existing children’s hospital is often nearly full and has 560 beds, according to the report.
Among CHOP’s other projects is the redevelopment of the former Philadelphia Convention Hall and Civic Center. The building was demolished in 2005, and CHOP has already spent $1.5 billion to help redevelop the site with the University of Pennsylvania, according to the report.
