Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak to open pediatric emergency center

Royal Oak, Mich.-based Beaumont Hospital will open its pediatric emergency center July 16. The new child-friendly center is part of a $120.8 million emergency care expansion and renovation project at the hospital.

The center is 9,500 square feet and features 16 private rooms.

"The new center provides a quieter patient and family-centered environment with amenities that support the high quality emergency care parents and families expect for children," said hospital president Rosanna Morris.

The larger renovation project is expected to be completed in 2019. Once finished, the emergency center will have 73 private adult rooms, 20 semiprivate rooms, 10 private behavioral health rooms and 16 private pediatric rooms. In addition, it will feature four trauma bays and an area for patients with minor injuries and illnesses.

Portions of the former emergency center will remain in use, and the expansion will add 53 private beds.
