Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville (Fla.) and Wolfson Children's Hospital will partner to build a seven-story tower that will expand Wolfson and provide a new front entrance for both facilities, according to The Florida Times-Union.
Five stories of the building will be used by Wolfson, which will expand its neonatal care center to 75 beds and its pediatric intensive care unit to 26 beds. The top floor will be left open for expansion, and the ground floor will connect Wolfson to Baptist Medical Center.
"This new building will be our new 'front door,' essentially reorienting our entire campus," said Michael Mayo, president of Baptist Medical Center.
The 220,000-square-foot tower will cost $187 million and is expected to be completed in early 2021. The expansion will make Wolfson the second-largest children's hospital in Florida, with 272 beds.
